When can I start carrying my baby in the carrier?

The carrier is designed for babies from approximately 4-6 months old and about 60 cms tall (min 66 cm with model IN). We can only give approximate figures because babies’ sizes vary greatly. Until the child is about 4 months old the carrier is still too wide between the legs. When the baby gains more bulk it will fill the space between you and the backrest, which can then provide them with proper back support.

For small babies, who are unable to 100% hold their head yet, is possible to pull the backrest up just a little over the head to provide support and protect the head from sudden recline.

What is the maximum weight capacity of the carrier?

KiBi has passed the weight test for 20 kg. It should handle any weight up to this point easily. Children’s size and weight can vary greatly during their infancy -- from a tall 2 year old girl weighing 12kg to a boy of the same age weighing 18 kg. Because our own children are quite heavy we wanted to set the weight limit so that it would suffice for most children under 3 years of age.

Another issue is the height of the child. If you carry older children only occasionally and for short distances it is not necessary that the cloth under their bottom reaches all the way to their knees. Children who are able to sit on their own do not need to be supported along their whole spine. It is not advisable to try to force their backs into the rounded position with knees high up that is beneficial for small babies who do not have the curvature of their spine fully developed yet. Older children have no problem handling the small discomfort of the cloth reaching only halfway along their thighs. However, if you need to carry your child for longer periods of time it is better that the cloth reaches from one knee to the other because the child is much more comfortable. The KiBi carrier is adjustable in such a way that it suffices for most children who have turned 3. If your child is of smaller stature you will be able to use the KiBi carrier even when they become a pre-schooler.

I am short, while my partner, on the other hand, is big and tall. Will it be possible for both of us to use the KiBi?

Yes. We took pains to ensure that the KiBi carrier is as universal as possible and can accommodate all sizes of carrying persons. You can lengthen or shorten the shoulder straps so that the padding is always on the shoulders with short or tall people. This also allows very thin and short women to tighten the shoulder straps sufficiently. The padding on the waistband is sized so that even very slight people could tighten it comfortably around the waist and do not have to pull it down on their hips. The minimum circumference of the waistband is 60 cms.

What materials is the carrier made of? Are they natural or artificial?

The base carrier fabric as well as the designer fabric are 100% cotton. All materials have been tested in an accredited laboratory and fulfil the rather strict requirements of the Czech regulation 84/2001 SB. It sets the maximum limits for chemicals in products for children up to 3 years of age. The carrier has also been tested for the release of harmful chemicals from the fabric when in contact with sweat and saliva. The tests also evaluates the fastness of colours.

How to wash and maintain the carrier?

You can wash the carrier in the washing machine using a gentle wash with 30 degrees Celsius (the best is hand washing/wool program). The fabric can be ironed at a lower temperature. The KiBi carrier should not be tumble dried. Dry it in the shadow by dripping. Be careful to not use aggressive washing powders or gels which could affect the colours. Never use bleach because it will destroy the colours. Tip for wash here.

The standard remedy in case of staining is always a wet cloth. Actually, it is not necessary to wash the carrier as often as it would appear.
